Q&A: Ask an LP
hi - i’m a portfolio manager for a large LP. I have a small team and together we manage about $10bn in PE (and a bit of venture - tbh never found venture super rewarding). I started in IBD, did PE MM for a bit and am now here. Happy to answer any questions - i love being an LP and find it super intellectually engaging.
What are the day to day biggest differences? How much of a step down in comp is there over time? How much co-invest/secondaries/fund commitments do you work on?
Why is venture not super rewarding? Also, what do you think of venture managers in terms of alpha? Are there too many VC managers that don’t produce returns / all capital is unrealized?
Favorite PE firms of all times? What sort of returns do you target?
