Any insight on Cinven ?

Hello,

I will have an interview for Cinven in the following days, so I wanted to know if you have some insights on this fund ? Is it a commercial fund that focuses on the strategy or a technical fund with mainly former investment bankers ?

What do you know about the teams that are not in London ?

Thank you for your help !

Bump, also interested, in particular (1) culture, (2) WLB / Hours and (3) comp, especially in London.

Thank you !

This is just for London. All I know about comp is that it's slightly above market for associates, but don't expect Apollo level. Culture-wise, I understand from 2nd and 3rd degree sources that it's a highly professional environment (somewhat cold, old-school germanic in approach, won't make many friends there or go out for a pint after work), but WLB is very much respected, same goes for vacations. As for MO, the teams on the continent seem to have notable decision power - IIRC, the ThyssenKrupp deal was ran by the Frankfurt team with relatively minimal support from London (I recall this from the articles around the deal, if someone has been closer to it, please correct me). Oh, and they like a consulting mindset I hear, similar to BainCap in that regard. Hope it helps, let me know how it turns out.

Thank you for this answer, it helped me a lot ! For those who will be interviewing in the future, here is some information that I obtained during my interview: the team is very focused on the operational (a lot of work on the strategy) and less on the structure of the acquisition ( they have historically preempted many deals without going through the traditional auction process). For offices other than London in general, the teams try to make one or two investments per fund raised (so one deal every 2 years or so), the bulk of the work is therefore on monitoring participations. And finally for the interview, there are a lot of typical questions in strategy consulting (market sizing) and a little more complicated questions on specific sectors ("How much do you put in debt if you invest in Easy Jet?").
