Anyone ever ask to go semi-remote?
Experienced VP at a LMM fund in a T2 city (think Denver, Dallas, Atlanta, Charlotte). I’m doing well at the firm but miss the T1 city I lateraled in from. I was thinking of asking to move back and committing to be in the office for 1 week / month and more often on an ad hoc basis as necessary. Has anyone asked for a similar arrangement and how was it received?
I asked this once.
After my boss stopped laughing, he told me to turn his comments and come up with better jokes.
I know someone who "successfully" negotiated this arrangement and operated this way for years. It did, however, ultimately impact his upward mobility and he no longer works in the industry.
All to say - this arrangement is doable, but expect upward consequences... unless you're bringing in some healthy deal flow and driving $s to the firm as a result of your new location.
It has happened a fair bit at my firm but mostly at MD level. The few below that are typically fundraisers / IR. Investment people who do this have a target on their back and you need to be a superstar
