Apax vs Bain vs CD&R vs Carlyle vs H&F vs NMC vs TPG
Have gotten coffee chats/ HH outreach for these firms. Bain in Boston, Carlyle in DC, H&F/TPG in SF, rest in NYC. Thoughts/potential ranking for these? Know they’re all amazing funds and would be fortunate to land a seat at any, but wanted to prioritize for coffee chats/interview requests
If I’m being honest I would consider the group and the location above all
This + longer-term career aspirations (e.g., if you are interested in the tech sector then SF may make more sense).
Having said that, I would not recommend opportunities in SF unless you have family ties and/or really want to do tech. The city has seen better days.
Ok
Would go with location/industry focus.
Only name that stands out as a step below here is NMC.
All good options, though NMC and Bain are probably a tier below the rest.
If anything, Bain is a step ABOVE the others, along with TPG. Not sure what you’re getting your opinion from
Bain/TPG above H&F/Apax/CD&R is frankly delusional
Only my opinion but I would say:
H&F
Bain / Apax / CD&R
NMC / TPG
Still I would accept an offer at any of those shops
.
Agree, for the Bain / Apax / CD&R decision it comes down to the vertical / what your long term interest is
Why CD&R below H&F?
H&F has an exceptionally high quality of deal work / junior experience (also high pay) and isn’t as constrained to sector focus VS. CD&R, which crushes it in Industrials particularly for eg
