Ares Credit Analyst Program Rep
Hi everyone, I recently received a SA offer from Ares in their direct lending team and was wondering how good of an opportunity this is in terms of prestige, comp, and exit ops compared to a BB/EB offer I currently have in hand? Not sure if I want to do credit long term but they seem to be able to do an interesting mix of deals and invest across the capital structure. Any thoughts?

Ares is a top shop for direct lending and comp should be in line with other MF direct lending. If you’re not sure you want to do credit, however, take the banking offer. You’ll have more doors open to you if you choose to leave. Not that Ares Credit would necessarily pigeonhole you since you’ll be starting as analyst but your opportunity set would most likely be more credit oriented investing coming from direct lending.

do banking as your first job, it gives you more optionality for PE/corporates/HF
I lateraled to private credit and would not reccomend you start in it unless you have a personal interest in it (which i do but it is rare)
