Associate to VP comp bump
Does any one have any thoughts on what typical comp bump is from Associate to VP? I'm at UMM PE firm and just made VP. Have to say I'm fairly disappointed by the comp increase, especially given that carry is reserved for principal and above.
Vp pay in general is pretty shitty. Not sure why but the step up from associate isn’t really as meaningful as analyst to associate, idk why tho
Not a VP, per my title, but from the data points I’ve seen most VPs get relatively meaningful carry.
I guess it depends on the fund but VP comp in my experience has been significantly higher than associate comp. I’ve seen 60-75% all in on average. Most VP-level people I know also have carry ($1-2 MM on average is what I’ve seen).
Pg 10 on the linked 2021 report is good reference for cash comp (base + bonus) across fund size / title. Total cash comp for vp's of ~$400-$500k for funds $2-10bn. Carry is touched on in later pages, but smaller sample size used https://www.heidrick.com/en/insights/private-equity/2021-north-american…
