When you make it rain enough to cover rent, expenses, and salaries of staff, and need help with getting all your shit organized/keep a gate for any incoming BS requests. At banks generally group/team heads at the MD level.

Definitely not VP. Even partners often split secretaries - there's just not that much work to be done covering 1 person's schedule unless they've got tons of media requests or huge travel to cover, or you're also handling personal/family scheduling. My group head in banking who made high 7 / low 8 figures split his secretary with a few analysts.

Unless your firm pays ~$100k - $150k, your EA is not going to free up time, and is likely to cause more problems than solve problems.

Some people will say that sounds like a lot for an EA, but I have yet to meet a single person (with intelligence) who has made an EA solve out at lower pay grades. Maybe one guy I know in bumfuck nowhere paying ~$80k but still...you need reasonably bright people to free up time.
