Atlas Holdings (CT)

Nothing on the forum about these guys. Based in Greenwich, they have a $900 million fund and are interchangeably referred to as "distressed PE firm" and "collection of companies." They also have a unique program where they hire "field analysts" with 0-1 years of non-banking experience to work for a portfolio company, and then after 2-3 years they become associates with the firm. Why is this method not employed by other PE firms?

It seems as though they have a great track record of internal promotion but few former bankers - is this a good place for someone coming out of a standard IB analyst program with business school aspirations in 2-3 years?

Is anyone familiar with them?

I know a little about them. They did well enough with their early investments (specifically one of them, don't remember which) to ultimately raise their prior fund, which killed it, which led to their much larger fund today. In general, when you see small firms doing really well and getting larger, you'll see a high degree of internal promotion. I don't know whether it'd be a good track for someone "coming out of a standard IB analyst program with business school aspirations in 2-3 years" - that's something you'd likely have to discuss with them as I don't know how their associate program is set up.

"Why is this method not employed by other PE firms?"

They seem to be more operationally involved than other PE firms. Other PE firms are less operationally involved, so they value the transaction skillset of IB analysts more.

I just ran up against them on a hairy deal. They passed and we ended up with a better deal and the business. So I can vouch that they are out there and active.
