BB analyst to PE associate (London)

I am an analyst 1 in a strong coverage team in a non top 3 BB in London. Our team frequently pitch for rfp / execute with UMM/MF PE funds on buy side. I also have some level familiarity to an European language. Would like to switch to associate at PE in 2 years, with total comps to be ~GBP 200k or above

Recently talked to a headhunter and they mention A1 ranking is critical and will impact what types of process they offer to me. They claim to run recruitment process for both MF/UMM and MM PE.

Wondering to what extent is it true and how important is it? My team is very crowded and getting a top tier ranking (usually 1/10 analysts) seems to be beyond personal efforts. What else will be important? (Eg., networking with professionals in the PE I want to work in? Deal experience?)

I also see cases when analyst lateral within 2 years from a European BB and get UMM PE associate position, or stay 3/4 years in banking and promote to associate in banking before switching (not a fan for this). Wondering if yoe is also important?
