Best EBs for post MBA PE recruiting?

Basically title. I know generally, and especially in this environment, it’s an uphill battle at best. That said, curious if anyone has any anecdotes or data points on which Elite Boutiques have had MBA associates who successfully transitioned to the buy side.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some insights on Elite Boutiques (EBs) and their relevance for post-MBA Private Equity (PE) recruiting:

  1. Top EBs in Europe:

    • Lazard (LAZ)
    • Rothschild
    • These firms are on par with Goldman Sachs (GS), Morgan Stanley (MS), and JPMorgan (JPM) in Europe. They have strong European heritage and are much larger in the region.
  2. Other Notable EBs:

    • Evercore (EVR)
    • Moelis & Company (MC)
    • These firms have decent deal flow, solid exits, and benefit from their US reputation.
  3. Additional Respected EBs:

    • Perella Weinberg Partners (PWP)
    • Centerview Partners
    • Greenhill & Co.
    • These firms are respected, primarily on the back of their US brands.
  4. General Observations:

    • EBs like Evercore, Moelis, and Centerview are well-recognized for roles that are typical IB exits, such as PE and Hedge Funds (HF).
    • In London, even Big 4 accountants can secure solid PE gigs, indicating a diverse entry path into PE from various financial backgrounds.
  5. Anecdotal Evidence:

    • From previous WSO threads, it is noted that EBs provide significant client exposure and entrepreneurial opportunities due to smaller team sizes.
    • EBs are attractive places to be, with constant headhunting for PE roles.

In summary, Lazard, Rothschild, Evercore, Moelis, and Centerview are among the top EBs that have had success in transitioning MBA associates to the buy side, particularly in Europe. These firms offer strong deal flow, client exposure, and are well-recognized in the industry.
