BlackRock PEP London

Hi all - I was wondering about the working hours at BlackRock PEP? I heard this was a team based in London & Zurich, mainly focusing on co-invest and was wondering if some of you had any insight on the work-life balance there? Also curious about the types of deals you’re working on?

thanks

Based on the most helpful WSO content, there isn't specific information about BlackRock PEP's working hours or work-life balance in London and Zurich. However, here are some general insights on work-life balance in Private Equity (PE) and Investment Banking (IB) in London:

  1. Work-Life Balance in PE:

    • General PE Insights: Work-life balance in PE can vary significantly depending on the firm and team. Smaller funds might offer a better lifestyle compared to larger megafunds, where the work ethic and hours can be intense, similar to investment banking.
    • Renewable Energy PE: For example, in renewable energy PE, you might work 9-6 on weekdays with occasional weekend work during closings, which is more lifestyle-adjusted compared to megafunds.
  2. Investment Banking in London:

    • Culture and Hours: The culture and hours in London IB can vary by bank and department. Some banks might have a more collegial environment with better work-life balance, while others might have longer hours, especially in departments like LevFin and DCM.
  3. General PE Workload:

    • Deal Intensity: PE work can ramp up significantly during live deals, often requiring long hours and weekend work. The workload can be intense, especially in competitive environments where everyone is striving to earn their carry dollars.

For more specific insights on BlackRock PEP, you might want to look for threads or discussions on WSO that focus on BlackRock or similar firms in London and Zurich. If you have any more specific questions or need further details, feel free to ask!

Analysts come through the HR-led analyst recruiting process. The early stages of that are run by HR and I don’t know how they work though much has been written elsewhere on this site about it. There are 2-3 rounds conducted by the PEP team with the final round being a super day.

Associates are hired on an as-needed basis. The team generally prefers to promote analysts to associate so there is very little hiring done at the associate level.

Most of the process will be behavioral. I don’t believe there is a significant technical component to the analyst hiring process though you might get a very basic technical question or two. There likely is a model test and/or case study for associates.
