Blackstone GSO /KKR/Apollo Private Credit vs Other PE

Hey guys, I am working at a BB in a Canadian office and expecting an offer for a Tech Private Credit Investing role at a MF (think Blackstone GSO/KKR/Apollo). This role is at a relatively smaller team, with lots of room to grow with the firm. They are willing to provide H1B sponsorship.

I am not interested in PC in the long run and would like to move to PE/VC at a MF after 2 years. Is it possible to move to PE internally or externally without MBA?

I don't really have an option to make a direct move to PE given that I require H1B sponsorship. I can wait for other opportunities but not sure if I would get one with H1B sponsorship.

Please share your thoughts/experience.

Also, what's the expected all-in comp at MFs PE/PC?

Curious how you’re “expecting an offer” at one of these places. Did you already interview with them? They didn’t tell you your comp yet?

Comp at the junior level usually isn’t really far off the equity side. Trying to switch teams within the firm can be tough/a bit awkward, but you’ll definitely have equity opportunities available, especially if you move down market. As you mentioned though, if you really want to be in the US, can’t be too picky.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I got a verbal offer but not the written offer yet. I know my all in comp package from headhunter but didn't have that discussion with the firm yet, which was a bit weird. I just don't want them to pay less b/c I am on H1B, which isn't fair to me or any US citizens. So yeah I am basically trying to benchmark against PC / PE comp.

What do you mean by move down market? I assume it'd not be super difficult to move back to Canada or NY for PE roles. If not, I guess I can try to get my MBA and then move to PE.

Thanks!
