Buss Dev/Strategic Acquisitions Group good idea?

Have a friend that went to law school now in first year of banking (straight from school to banking). Has offer to join, after completion of first year, internal business development / acquisitions group for a large financial institution (obviously which would be specializing in FIG acquisitions). Is this considered a viable step towards/on par with PE/HF in the FIG space?

comp might not be as good, but less hours and use of company jet will offset that. I'm in a Fortune 500 FIG company in corp dev. I like it even though I'm not making mega dollars. Even if he doesn't want to stay there, he could likely make the change to PE or HF after learning the industry.
