buy-side analyst on-cycle / off-cycle PE recruiting

incoming investment analyst (generalist) at an upper middle market fund. Learned all my peers who're going into IB are preparing for on-cycle PE recruiting. Curious whether the process is the same for investment analyst who's already at buy-side but want to jump to a better fund in two years? would the timeline be different? curious whether anyone has gone through the process and is there something i should be aware of

thx! how do u express interest? know it's headhunter-driven process but heard that some funds can be hesitant to hire from another fund background, etc.

  1. Emailing recruiters to lyk if they get a mandate from that firm
    2. Linkedin connect / email someone from that firm directly and take it from there.

To do #1, u do need a relationship w that recruiter. So i recommend taking a few calls w them here and there for intro and/or going through a few processes first
