Bx PE & tac opps general and infrastructure.

i have a quick question. anyone got any insight into how Bx is organized for PE? do you start off as a generalist and then specialize into a particular group or recruit for one of the coverage groups specifically.

what are some good questions to ask the infrastructure team so that I don't look like a complete idiot?

also, wtf is Blackstone tac opps, how do I prepare to recruit for that.

thank you

can do my best to fill in some gaps. anyone feel free to correct me if im wrong but this is from my understanding

Blackstone Infrastructure (aka BIP) is a completely separate strategy within BX. They have their own SA program. From the way it was explained to me BIP operates via an Evergreen fund and is meant to just be an AUM machine. Their overall strategy is to stay very close to what they were mandated to do (I believe its 3 specific sub sectors in infra) - aka their pitch to LPs is that they will be very disciplined and invest in what they say they will. And in terms of their investment strategy they aim to buy a platform and deploy more capital into that platform via M&A to expand and grow their portfolio.

Not super familiar with BX Tac Ops but their just BX's opportunistic/distressed investing arm aka they don't have a strict mandate and can deploy capital into whatever makes money. There should be a thread on them floating around but from what I last read they will do things like buy into music rights, etc...
