Current 1st year at an EB. Did not get looks on cycle (nontarget 3.8?)
Thinking about getting a MM tech offer off cycle and lateralling after 1 year to UMM/MF tech/growth.
Would love to hear thoughts on this strategy or if I should go to a top tech group then recruit?
Bump
What are you trying to achieve longer term? I also think you can probably get UMM+ off cycle vs the roundabout route
Optimizing for brand, experience and ability to exit to HF
Problem is located in Non-NY EB so less looks
Non-nyc is definitely why you didn't get the same looks. Nontargets with 3.8s at solid nyc banks get tons of inbounds for MFs.
To be honest, I don't think your reasoning for why UMM and not MM makes sense.
Lateraling upstream (MM -> UMM/MF) is hard and lateral associate hires are an ad-hoc basis so you need a bit of luck there as well. Would recommend to lateral to a top tech group and then recruit
Can you say which city you’re in and what type of EB such as is it the top ones think moelis cvp I might have more insight
Non-CVP/EVR west coast
From observations, if you aren't GS/MS/Q/EVR/JPM/MOE then you aren't going to get much NY looks quoting many other experiences across groups in west coast. Were you recruiting for NY or west coast? If you wanna slide off private, I can DM you
