Charlesbank is a JAMMBO without strong performance for their flagship fund. Their tech team is doing much better in terms of fundraising momentum and has a relatively stronger right to win due to being more focused in nature. PE firms are also businesses, and there's very little reason a customer (LP) would choose Charlebanks flagship over the plethora of other generalist middle market funds when the flagship fund is below average performance wise. The competition in the tech specialist LMM space is relatively less competitive in terms of GPs, and the tech opps fund has a relatively stronger right to win in its niche over the flagship fund.
