Chicago MF/UMM firms
Which would you take of GTCR, MDP, or BDT? All seem to be doing well and have raised big funds recently. Any other big names in Chicago to be aware of?

Don’t know if I would consider it to be a “big” fund but Vistria comes to mind from an MM perspective
GTCR = BDT > MDP
GTCR vs. BDT depends on your level of interest in BDT's merchant banking model. They do a decent amount of advisory work in addition to investing
GTCR is a fantastic fund. MF level pay ($~340k assoc 1), top quartile returns in almost every fund, and lights out b school placement (lots got to HBS/GSB).
MDP is good too; just also has more of an "old school Wall Street" vibe than the other two imo
Ignore title. Now in PE. I’d say GTCR has a slight edge of mdp, but I’d say it depends more about being e generalist at MDP or focusing on a sector at GTCR. Can’t really go wrong with any of these funds. Also GTCR pays less than MDP for associate 1. The number you are showing is wrong. The different is only ~5k
I’d also say placement for GTCR and MDP for biz school is top of the top compared to most funds. Don’t see the same with BDT
What is GTCR ASO1 total comp?
GTCR and make bank
GTCR if interested in healthcare or tech. Great group in hc and very sharp when I’ve worked with them. Have been impressed

TB is all back office in Chicago. No investment team
I heard GTCR was back in the office very early in the pandemic. First fund I heard of back in the office. Talk about a sweatshop.
This is silly. In-person leads to a better learning experience, especially for first year associates.
