I am soon going to attempt to cold email a partner at a fund in my city to pitch an investment idea that is right down the fairway for their fund strategy in the hopes of converting the conversation to a VP seat. I've got what I believe to be a compelling thesis, model, and presentation materials, but only get one shot so I want to make it count when I reach out later this week.
For background, I have 6 years of banking experience and 2 years of corporate development at a PE-backed portco, all covering sectors different from the fund strategy I'm interested in, so it's going to be a long shot. However, I used this exact approach with a smaller fund in a similar sector/strategy earlier this year and was invited in for what I thought was an overwhelmingly positive interview, only to ultimately be ghosted.
Has anyone had success doing something like this and able to share some guidance?
