considering a fund accounting position at PE firm, how likely are internal transfers?

So I am currently an auditor at a public accounting firm. I am interviewing at a top 20 PE fund for a fund accounting position. I am wary of it as my end goal is to become an analyst and I am unsure if this an internal transfer from a accounting position is possible within such a fund. I went to a non target undergrad for accounting and went to a known but non target i would say ( baruch zicklin) for my masters in quantitative methods & modeling. this firm does say that I will constantly be exposed to the team as I am on same floor as them so i am sure i will build connections, but how realistic is it to go into this and working towards hopefully making a transfer within to an analyst position a year or two down the line? Fund accounting is definitely not where i want to be, and I would rather stick in public for a few more years to senior and try my odds again if there is absolutely no chance. Any help is appreciated.

background : first generation college student, never really learned the ropes until it was too late. learning how to network now but no real leads.

Do you have any suggestions on how i would enter a analyst role externally? ive tried to go through recruiters but it seems they all require a few years of experience.

Please don’t go into this job thinking you can internally transfer into the investment team. Frankly, I have never seen it done during my time in PE. To be honest, you would be setting yourself up for disappointment.

At your stage, I would think the best path forward is probably to join an investment bank as a 1st Analyst and recruit for PE from the traditional channels or get an MBA and become an Associate in investment banking. At that point, it may still be a tough shot but you’ll have relevant experience.
