Deal Closing Question

Curious to hear thoughts on this topic and how different firms handle this. Does your firm / deal team do anything special when closing a new platform? Have heard some firms do happy hours, deal team dinners, hell, have even heard of the deal team getting small bonuses. Have also heard business as usual. Just curious.

Few comments:

  • A sale is always more celebrated than a purchase (given (i) some guys are superstitious about celebrating a deployment (i.e., just the beginning of a 3-5 year journey), (ii) firms always have more funds and enthusiasm to celebrate a return of capital)
  • With that said, my firm usually does at least a few celebrations for closing a new deal --> Usually do a lunch or dinner as a deal team, then separately usually have some sort of celebration with the law firm and/or bankers who helped on the deal (e.g., nice dinner, often even a Vegas or Napa trip for larger platform)
