VP Signing Bonuses
I’m headed to business school in the fall and I’m hoping to benchmark signing bonuses for VPs signing on for post-MBA roles.
Could anyone share any relevant datapoints? If returning to your fund, are bonuses usually paid upon signing the offer or only when rejoining? Are bonuses usually higher for those returning to their same fund (vs. bonuses for those recruiting on campus)?
In comparison to consulting roles which will sponsor MBAs, it seems like PE associates may have the short end of the compensation stick.
No such thing lol; this isn't banking.
You'll get a $10-$15k moving expense, but the paycheck & carry is your signing bonus.
that sucks...in tech, you get $200k signing bonuses for like a $250k all-in comp job
no, no that’s not how it works in tech lmao
gf just moved from one of the Mag 7 to another...total comp is $250ish per year, with $150-$200k of stock upon signing (3-4 year vest). her friends have gotten more ($250k+ in stock as a 'signing bonus'). not cash, but similar.
that is not a signing bonus dude
Smartest LMM PE analyst
Most I saw was $25k but the median was probably zero. Very generous / uncapped relocation reimbursement is standard though.
MM PE in Boston/DC area. $15K pre tax relocation bonus paid out with first actual paycheck
What mm funds are in dc area?
What strategy? A couple true buyouts in DC/MD and a few growth strategy.
Amazing - Didn't realize that there weren't VP signing bonuses. Consulting seems to have better compensation than the IB + PE path for those who go to B-school.
Lmao I can’t tell if you’re joking
It's close - Just ran the math with some estimates and IB/PE comes out slightly ahead on a pre-tax basis. However, differences in taxes based on location and potential tax allocation of MBA reimbursement to B-school year with a lower marginal rate could easily tilt this in favor of MBB.
IB / PE - Yr. 1 - $200, Yr. 2 - $220, Year 3 - $300, Year 4 - $320, Total $1,040
MBB - Yr. 2 - $150, Yr. 2 - $175, Year 3 - $200, Year 4 - $225, MBA Reimbursement: $200, Total $950
I thought all in comp (including year end bonus) was still hire in IB/PE. Maybe I am out of touch with consulting comp.
No signing bonus at a $3B fund. Only $10K moving reimbursement.
