Vibe-Working in Finance with AI ? What about you

Since I have Claude Fable 5 with >1k tokens/month I've only been - what I call - "vibe working". I let claude build everything, all the analysis in excel etc., and while it grinds and works I listen to a podcast on the side or browse the internet.

The output has gotten really good and I have built all kinds of skill that make a good associate work product factually indifferentiably from an AI output. The days of where AI output looked like AI are gone for good.

I am actually wondering how long I can get by on this but so far it has been working really well.

So I know that this kind of thread will be filled by doubters/naysayers ... I am not sure whether you have access to the latest model. Let me give you an example from this eve:

MD wanted to run an analysis of market share development based on three different scenarios (i.e., growth with market, growth below market, market share loss halving based on historical loss, etc.) all sort of painful shenanigangs.

This would have cost at least 1.5-2h pulling everything together, running the analysis and then building the page.

I did this in legit 15 minutes with Claude.

Two risks

  • Data is hallucinated, but looks factual enough to pass a review. Ex: "company X did Y volume over 2024-2026, source: annual report link". But the numbers aren't actually in the linked report. Goes in a pitch and your MD looks like a goose, and they might not even tell him. Slides will look very polished.
  • No retained knowledge. Reviewing something for 15 mins puts it into memory at a different level as a 2 hour research. Get to a meeting and someone queries the numbers, and you don't have enough context on where they came from to back them with conviction. I'm not saying you have to do the 2 hour research, but the review needs to be an active review, testing each number/fact and verifying sources, this will take 30-60 mins, but worth it.

In effect, used well, you can speed up the grunt, but without an active review you will eventually get called out. If you're just doing this to coast and collect a wage, it can be fine, but will limit development.

The issue is the outputs look so real, it takes more effort to validate.
