Decision Support: IE MIM vs. ESADE CEMS (please help me !)

I am currently deciding between IE’s MIM and ESADE’s MIM + CEMS. I’m trying to find the right balance between 'fit' and 'prestige.'

On one hand, I’m much more drawn to the IE vibe and I personally prefer Madrid as a city. On the other hand, I recognize the CEMS prestige and the value of obtaining two degrees for the same price basically.

My goal is to target either MBB or Big Tech for the start of my career. I have no particular interest in Investment Banking or the London market. Given these goals, do you think the CEMS credential provides a necessary edge for Top-Tier Consulting, or is the IE brand and its networking environment in Madrid equally effective for breaking into these sectors?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to consider:

  1. CEMS Prestige and Dual Degree Advantage: ESADE’s MIM + CEMS program offers a significant edge in terms of global recognition, especially within top-tier consulting firms like MBB. The CEMS network is highly regarded in consulting circles and provides access to a strong alumni network, international exposure, and a curriculum tailored to global business leadership. If you value the prestige and the added credential of a dual degree, this could be a decisive factor.

  2. IE’s Networking and Madrid’s Appeal: IE’s MIM program is known for its dynamic and entrepreneurial environment, which aligns well with Big Tech aspirations. Madrid, as a city, offers a vibrant lifestyle and a growing tech ecosystem, which could be advantageous if you’re targeting roles in Big Tech. IE’s strong focus on innovation and its global network can also open doors to consulting, though it may not carry the same weight as CEMS in traditional consulting pathways.

  3. Targeting MBB vs. Big Tech: If your primary goal is MBB, the CEMS credential from ESADE could provide a stronger platform due to its established reputation in consulting recruitment. However, for Big Tech, IE’s innovative approach and Madrid’s tech-friendly environment might be equally effective, especially if you leverage the school’s network and resources.

  4. Personal Fit: While prestige and credentials are important, personal fit and your comfort with the program and city should not be overlooked. If you feel more drawn to IE and Madrid, this could enhance your overall experience and motivation, which are critical for success in any career path.

Recommendation:

If MBB is your top priority, ESADE’s MIM + CEMS program is likely the safer bet due to its prestige and consulting focus. However, if you’re leaning more towards Big Tech or value the lifestyle and environment of Madrid, IE’s MIM program could be a better fit. Ultimately, both programs can lead to success in your desired fields, but the choice depends on which factors—prestige, fit, or city—matter most to you.
