Career Resources
BUMP. Can completely relate as an international at a T15 MBA. Went through the process myself all MM stopped sponsoring and a BB withdrew superday invite due to visa sponsorship. Sometimes they cut me off just because i'm not a fit, although i had really good conversations. Feel like a fucking goner. Hope it works out for you.
Yup! My international peers are borderline suicidal, given the debt they took on to fund their MBA.
Kinda confused here. So you started in audit then went to boutique IB, then went to B-school to recruit for IB? Why not just lateral from the boutique to a different bank? Was your pre-MBA experience in your country or in the US?
Also, the post-MBAs "starting" as VPs almost all have pre-MBA PE experience. The best way to break into PE without any experience is from IB/consulting/other job. Especially if it's not a top 3 B-school (M7 max. T20 isn't really a thing for PE)
Tbh, I think it's worth reevaluating your goals and what's realistic. Remember that in the end PE is just a job - one of many possible career paths out there. If it doesn't work out, that doesn't mean you can't be happy or have a fulfilling career elsewhere. Look at how the rest of the people in your country are doing.
Good luck
.
If so, you didn’t diligence the job placement and career path correctly ie (i) Post MBA PE roles (including legit LMM PE) require pre MBA PE experience and (ii) Most LMM PE does not sponsor visa. Have seen a few kids through their career and earning potential away going to a no name LMM PE shops that are dead end. I would advice you to pivot to a different path (maybe something in corporate finance) while you are in bschool and have access to on campus recruiting.
This is something I’ve dreamt about since I was a kid, and it’s hard to accept that I may have to choose a different career path. I’ve spent years reading about deals, LBOs, and everything related, only to feel like I’m ending up nowhere. Is there any way i can intern at a PE fund now and start as an associate full time post-MBA? Going back to my country isn’t an option now cause of the student debt i owe.
The responses already answer the question you're asking again. You need a reality check, but also, you should find other aspirations and life goals. Not even trying to be a dick, but i've never met anyone whose life goal since they were a kid was to work in PE. That's quite strange and not in a good way - I would not mention that to anyone else.
which kid dreams about excel and LBOs lmao
kids dream about cars mansions girls whatever not making powerpoint slides
