Dell Buyout in Jeopardy?
Since announcing one of the largest buyouts in recent memory, Michael Dell and his partners at Silver Lake have encountered a little more resistance than they may have bargained for. Obviously no deal this big is without complications, but once Carl Ichan gets involved you know the shit has really hit the fan (right Bill Ackman?). Apparently Ichan, in addition to HP, Lenovo, and even Blackstone have all expressed interest in pursuing a rival offer (or at least getting a look at Dell's books). Also, as noted in Dealbook article from yesterday, Dell is now trading well above the original $13.65/share offer price. No matter what happens, it looks like Mike Dell and his cohorts will end up paying quite a bit more than $24.4 billion if they want to close this thing.
Any thoughts on this? Is the deal dead in the water or is this just a minor speedbump?
