Did I miss the boat?

Hey Everyone,

I just moved to my new city and am starting my IB FT role in about a week and a half. My buddies are talking about PE recruiting and I cant help but feel a bit behind thecurve. Is this too late for PE recruiting/where do I even get started? I am assuming that networking is a no go since I am on the street now and would not want to compromise my current job.

Any advice is much appreciated.

You're not behind the curve at all. 2022 on-cycle recruiting hasn't started so don't see 2023 recruiting (your class) happening until next year.

Start preparing your LBO modeling given you have a couple months so that by the time 2022 rolls around you'll be to be able to build a 3-4 hour LBO model from scratch. Assuming you're at a reputable firm, head hunters will reach out to you when the time comes. In the meanwhile do the best work possible and try to get as much relevant M&A experience as possible (assuming coverage/M&A group) so that you have transaction experiences on your resume when the time comes.

That was true for class of 2021 however with COVID things got delayed and class of 2022 hasn't even gone through on-cycle yet (i.e., most 2nd year analysts have not secured PE offers/had interviews).

Best guess is that 2022 on-cycle will happen sometime in the fall (post labor day) so realistically it would be impossible with the way things stand for 2023 on-cycle to happen Aug/Sep
