Differences between PE and Banking Internship
I was wondering what the differences between internships in banking and pe look like. Spoke to a contact who expressed that unlike banking internships, pe is a lot less collegial. He described much leaner deal teams which puts a higher stake on your work and mistakes, people averse to assigning work to you for the time drain of explaining it, an lack of feedback especially when then work done is all wrong (often the case), and an expectation to contribute when you often have 0 idea what you’re doing, and much lower return rates. From what I’ve heard is banking the better internship? Huge teams, less complicated work for you to mess up, a lot of free time amongst staffers to mentor and really teach, low expectations as the deliverable ends up not mattering at all. Wanted to hear thoughts.
