I went to a state school and hit a 3.8 / 4.0 GPA in my undergraduate career with Summa Cum Laude honors.
Would you recommend taking my GPA off of my resume since Summa looks better? Or would it look shady if I left it off. Please advise.

Either (a) write both, or (b) just write the number.
Some people don't know the difference between summa/magna/cum laude off the top of their heads. You might confuse the people reading your resume, and they might assume your GPA is lower than it really is. For example, there are people with a 3.5 GPA who put "magna cum laude" and try to get people to think they're special.
Secondly, a 3.8 is great. Most people agree that a 4.0 is bad (it gives off an antisocial dweeb vibe), but any scrub can get a 3.5. So a 3.7 to a 3.9 is the ideal range, and seeing as you're right in the middle, that seems like a good GPA to have.

Imagine someone thinking worse of you because you didn’t get a couple of A-‘s. I don’t have a 4.0, but I think the sentiment that a straight 4.0 means you’re antisocial is unbelievably stupid.
I agree that it's stupid.
But... it doesn't matter what I think. It matters what recruiters think, as they will be reviewing his resume (and I won't).
Even Patrick Curtis said (I can't find the link to the video at the moment) that a 3.9 is preferable to a 4.0 GPA.
