Does it make sense to do PE if being an investor is not your end game?

Currently, I am a 1st-year ANL at a BB and am trying to decide what to do next. While "next" is hard to envision, I do see myself down the road more in tune with a CEO/operating position. Given that this is the end goal, does it make sense at all to do PE even if the long-term objective is not to become an investor/partner/CFO/etc.

Here are my thoughts about it: I like the financial learning that PE offers. I think 2 additional years in finance would be sufficient for my financial education especially since IB finance can be a bit less substantive given the pitchwork nature of the job (I'm in coverage). Plus, some shops have an operation-oriented component to it. The challenge seems very compelling, and I think I'd want that after banking. 

What do you guys think? Is PE only for hardcore finance folks, or is it a job that will a great skill developer regardless of the long-term objective? I appreciate all the input very much.
