Drop your best advice.

If you had a son or daughter that was 21 years old and 9 days away from starting at an elite alternative asset management company, what advice would you give them?

Could be anything under the moon (mental health, productivity, preparation, etc.). Just trying to learn.

Work hard and have a positive attitude. At the end of the day, that’s what matters the most for any junior person in a finance role - you’ll learn over time but no one expects you to know how to do everything from day 1. If you make a mistake, learn from it and make sure it never happens again (or at a minimum not with the same person).

Beyond that, don’t underestimate the importance of networking with more senior people on your team. While a ~10 week internship feels like a long time to a college student, it’s a blink of the eye to people who work full time and if you don’t make a proactive effort to be known, you won’t be. At the end of the summer when they are thinking through who to give a return offer to, you need someone to raise their hand for you so making those connections is crucial.
