ER to PE, is this role worth it?

I have no idea how PE works as i've been in ER my whole career so please bare with me. Without going into detailed specifics, I have worked in equity research the last 4 years since graduating undergrad. A recruiter for a MM PE shop reached out, one thing led to another, i got an offer. The role at the PE shop isn't a "traditional" associate role. Essentially, I will be doing research on new industries as well as adjacent industries to the portfolio companies. I get why my ER background fits, but it doesn't seem like there will be any company specific analysis, just industry research. Is this worth doing?

Thanks in advance.

I think this is a questions which we can’t give you an answer for.

“Is it worth it?” Is a very subjective question. What do YOU care about?

Compensation?

Rewarding job?

Challenge?

WLB?

I would do 2 things if I were in your situation. Make a note of what you’re looking for in a job and then draw up a list of pros and cons and compare.

If that doesn’t get you anywhere, ask your parents! I know it sounds uncanny, but my parents have always given me great advice, added a different perspective to things, and/or simply allowed me to see the bigger picture.

Now Don’t let their opinions sway your decision, in the end it’s your choice and you’re the one that should decide what’s best for you.

Hope this helps a little !
