ESG / Impact Investing Info on Groups

Any information on this subject would be much appreciated!

Really curious as to the culture of these groups as well as the role of an associate - ie more sourcing versus execution?

Additionally, may someone please shed some light on which ones are more legit versus just trying to call themselves impact?

Looking for suggestions of funds to look into - one that came to mind is TPG Rise and very curious what people know about this

Based on the WSO Dataset, TPG's Rise Fund is a significant player in the ESG/impact investing space. Here's what you need to know about the culture, role of an associate, and the legitimacy of their impact focus:

  1. Culture: The culture within TPG's Rise Fund, like many impact investment groups, tends to be driven by a mission-oriented approach. This means that the work environment often aligns with the values of sustainability and social responsibility. However, it's important to note that the intensity and demands typical of private equity environments are still prevalent.

  2. Role of an Associate: In impact investing groups such as TPG Rise, the role of an associate can vary but generally includes a mix of sourcing and execution. The balance between these tasks can depend on the specific fund's strategy and structure. Associates are likely to be involved in due diligence, financial modeling, and deal execution, along with efforts to identify and evaluate potential investments that align with the fund's impact criteria.

  3. Legitimacy of Impact: TPG Rise has established itself as a credible player in the impact investing field. The fund is known for its substantial commitment to generating social and environmental impact alongside financial returns. Their structured approach in measuring and reporting impact helps in maintaining transparency and accountability, distinguishing them from funds that might only superficially label themselves as 'impact-focused'.

  4. Suggestions of Funds to Look Into: Besides TPG Rise, you might want to explore other funds known for their focus on impact investing:

    • Bain Capital's Double Impact
    • KKR’s Global Impact Fund
    • BlackRock's Impact Opportunities Fund

These funds are recognized for their genuine commitment to impact investing, with structured methodologies for measuring and achieving impact objectives.

Exploring these options will give you a broader view of the landscape and help you understand the nuances of how different funds operate within the ESG/impact investing space.
