FIG PE career path?

Hi guys:

Have an opportunity to transfer into my fund’s FIG focus group, but I don’t really know FIG that well. How are careers in FIG PE different than corporate PE? Thank you

Been in financial services IB and PE for a number or years. As an IB analyst I would caution you away from FIG just because you can get pigeonholed (especially if you do a lot of insurance, depositories or specialty finance) and will have a tougher time recruiting for generalist PE roles (which may or may not be fair)

Once you're at a fund the calculus changes a bit. I would be less worried about being limited by FIG (at some point you're going to have to pick an industry no matter what). I would ask, if your fund's FIG group strong? Is there room for advancement? Do you like the people?
