Full Remote
Have heard rumors of a MM/UMM PE firms going with full remote options for their investment teams lately. Has anyone else heard of this / any firms that are doing this?

Personally have not heard of this - most I've heard is hybrid (3 days in / week).
Seconding that I also haven't heard of this. Hybrid is pretty common but in such a team-oriented business, full remote just provides a lot of challenges.
Haven’t heard of this and at risk of sounding like a boomer don’t think remote is a good idea for associates or early VPs in this industry.
I agree with you philosophically. What about for Associates that started remote in Spring/Summer 2020 and only have a handful of months left in their ASO program. Do you think it would be kosher to ask to just finish remote?
Depends on your fund and relationship there. I think you’d sort of disappear in a lot of folks eyes and you’d lose a decent chunk of your time to leave an impression with some relationships that might end up being important to you later. Vs just going to the office for a few months which doesn’t seem like that big of a sacrifice to go out on a high note. So I’d lean against it personally. I see that people don’t like my answers as I’m getting monkey shit but these are my honest perspectives for what I think is optimal.
Not sure why the above user is getting MS either. I agree with all points. It is absolutely crucial for new hires to be in the office and get into the "flow" of things and build personal relationships/comradery. While fully remote works among senior professionals, it places the junior professionals at a big disadvantage from a development perspective.
I don't disagree on development perspective, but the benefit of being in the office for junior professionals doesn't make sense if the seniors aren't there at least a few days a week. If you're taking instruction from more senior team members over email / Zoom, it's as productive doing it from home as it is in the office. Benefit of being in person only works if bulk of the team are there.
This this this this!
If the damn seniors aren't there then what am I gaining by being in office? Comradry with other juniors? We can hang out together outside work anytime.
Its been totally unfulfilling coming into the office to hop on zoom calls with mds all day.
They should be leading by example. If they expect everyone to be in the office, they should be there other than when they're travelling for work. Preaching the benefits of being in the office to juniors so they can "learn by osmosis" while they chill in their beach house is bullshit. As a VP, it's helpful if the associate is in when we're working together on a deal and can quickly back and forth on deliverables, but I do not expect them to be in if I'm WFH and the seniors are WFH too. Similarly, when they're focusing on modelling or other concentration intensive work, it can be more productive for them to do it from home free from distraction (seniors interrupting them with the latest needless analysis on their mind).
Above poster here. Totally agree. I was presupposing seniors or at least mid-seniors need to be in the office. Not everyone everyday but some of them enough of the time where someone is always in.
