They have not fired people, if anything they are hiring. From my understanding they are split based on sector teams and many teams are not that sweaty but one might be.
Firms can be firing and hiring at the same time. They want to fire associates who have been there for 2-3 years because they can't afford to promote them (e.g. when not raising bigger funds) but they can still hire new associate 1s with the hope that they will leave themselves after 2 years or maybe market is better in 3 years and they can promote
Almost every US fund operates under the assumption that only strong performers are promoted, and everyone joining a US fund is hopefully aware that they are joining an Associate programme that does not guarantee promotion (% of class promoted may change depending on market, however).
Agree with the other guy, its not firing if not moving people up. But also my understanding (according my friend who works there) is that since 2021 they haven’t fired/pushed out people at the associate level. It’s either people leaving to do earlier stage or people that are going to business school with an offer to come back.

Sweaty and heard rumors that they have been firing people on the Associate level due to market down turn recently
But a top notch brand

It's hardly firing if you don't promote to VP.
