Getting Laid Off - How long can I take off?
I'm an ASO2 getting laid off, not for performance reasons. The lateral market is so tough and I might not be able to secure a role by labor day.
How long can I take off and go on vacation before PE recruiters and firms write me off? What about for other role within corporates or PE backed portfolio companies?
i think in today's market you have quite some time
Why do you say that?
The market is terrible so it's not going to be easy to find a new role. It's fine to take a month off to decompress, but I wouldn't take 2.5 months without at least talking to HHs and spending some time recruiting. It can easily take 6 months of looking to find another role
It can easily take a year or more, firms are very picky in this market. You probably have up to a year of runway in this market given how many people are losing / switching jobs.
Be prepared for 1 year, potentially longer worst case. That's the tough reality of this environment right now, but employers do acknowledge that (I've hired some associates that were let go 16 months ago as of late).
