Going to PE info sessions as rising sr?

Received return offer at top bb group that encourages exits and places very well.

unfortunately, i go to a well-known non-target school (OSU/IU/PSU/UF/etc.)

interested in PE and curious if it is worth attending networking events at my school. Ron of funds visit for recruiting just as a function of class size here.

Attending PE info sessions and networking events as a rising senior is absolutely worth it, especially given your interest in private equity and your position at a top BB group that encourages exits. Here's why:

  1. Networking Opportunities: Even if your school is a non-target, networking events can help you build relationships with professionals in the industry. As highlighted in WSO discussions, many PE professionals value personal connections and fit over just pedigree. A strong impression at these events could lead to valuable introductions or opportunities.

  2. Alumni Connections: Some PE firms actively recruit from their alumni networks. If alumni from your school are in attendance, they may be more inclined to help you navigate the process or even advocate for you.

  3. Information Gathering: These sessions provide insights into what specific PE firms are looking for in candidates, their recruiting timelines, and the skills they value most. This can help you tailor your approach when applying.

  4. Low Risk, High Reward: As mentioned in WSO threads, even if most networking initiatives don’t yield immediate results, you only need one to hit to make it worthwhile. The potential upside far outweighs the time investment.

Given your strong position at a top BB group, attending these events could complement your existing credentials and help you stand out further. Just ensure you approach these sessions with a clear strategy—research the firms attending, prepare thoughtful questions, and follow up with any meaningful connections you make.
