Hard to get along with one person...should I think about leaving?

hi guys:

Would really appreciate your perspective on this please - there is one person that I have trouble getting along with on my team - he is a white guy who's only relatable to others from the same background /activity (think upper middle class, same school, etc). He likes to put people down and doesn't really empower others or give them leverage. He basically just has a need to feel superior and as a result, want other people to do repeated work/withhold information.

Now, this person hasn't made my life super miserable yet. I'm just thinking about if I should leave because I feel like there are a lot of people like that at every firm.

What's your experience and perspective been on these? I think such people are prevalent enough in the industry that it's not practical to leave because of that.

Thanks!

work harder than him and make him look dumb, but if hes an asshole and works harder than you, then you're at a loss

OP only you know what your limits are.

All I will say is that finance is littered with these same kinds of people across verticals and geographies. Sadly you will have to grow a thick skin, learn how to minimize contact and/or learn to maneuver around/with said person/people.

If you truly hate this person and he is making you miserable, best to leave. But once you find out that there are so many like this person, it may drive you out of the industry. And guess what? That's totally ok. Because you would not be the first one to do so and you won't be the last. There are lots of things to do in life. No point in being miserable 10-16 hours a day when you are young (or old).

Good Luck
