Holiday pre-process work
Anyone else working straight through Christmas on pre-process work just to be “well positioned” whenever a process eventually launches? Working on deals that may not formally come to market for months
This has now happened to me multiple years in a row / feels pointless and honestly pretty infuriating. Curious whether this is just my fund or if this is broadly how most PE shops operate around the holidays
sounds psychotic...
This is a bit much. I had 3 consecutive Christmas / new years blown up a few years back but those were all on live deals. I’ve never worked at a shop that would blow up a team’s Xmas plans for pre process work. What type of fund (size / strategy) are you at?
UMM tech buyout firm - scheduled a bunch of ICs first week of January. Firm loves to do ICs pre process with internal CDD type work
Find a different shop or learn to say no. You’re honestly not respecting your own time enough if you’ve worked multiple years in a row “straight through Christmas” on crap that doesn’t matter.
What you are describing sounds insane.
That’s definitely on the hardo side, but think stuff like this to gain any perceived competitive edge is becoming more normal as the industry matures. The only way to differentiate is working harder as capital is increasingly a commodity.
Oh man I thought this would be an infrequent thing, I swear one of the pitches for PE was (more) holiday protection...
This is an infrequent thing. My firm doesn’t do this (MF) and I don’t have my friends at PE shops who do. This is weird and this guy should leave this place.
yeah in process on that front.. would avoid firm
