How are your PE firms holding up?

I’m wondering if I should switch over to the PE side. I love the idea of being a deal maker as opposed to providing a service. I have always dreamt of it. I’m not at a BB IB, so I would be looking at LMM to MM firms. My understanding is that a decent anount of these firms are at a high risk of becoming zombie funds due to businesses still being on their balance sheets too long. I don’t need to worry about carried at this point in my career, but long term career outlook is important to me. I want to find a firm and stay. Some of my coworkers won’t touch the industry because of the concerns. The majority are either staying with our bank or going to Corp-Dev. The risk is that in 2027-2028, the people that jump to PE now may not have jobs at all being so low on the ladder. What are your thoughts? Are they over exaggerating the extent of the industry? Do you have any suggestions for firms on the East Coast or Chicago that are safe?? Thanks inadvance.
