It's actually not that hard to figure out what a person did when you talk to them...

ik but before you bring them in for an interview. do recruiters just try to contact everyone that's a IB analyst at a good bank on linkedin?

The major recruiters basically get a list of all the incoming analysts at the big banks. They send emails to everyone asking for an intro call and use that call to screen candidates before presenting them to their clients.

just wondering who provides this list and how do recruiters get this list?

They look on LinkedIn, ask analysts a year above who they placed for a list of ppl incoming into their groups, sometimes if a group has very supportive seniors they can ask them directly for list, etc. It’s not like a structured process basically to some degree the recruiters are just sales ppl looking for “good product” (analysts) to put in front of clients (pe firms) so they will dig around do what they can to find strong profiles to talk to.
