How do you network for buyside roles?

With PE recruiting coming up (I’m 2023), I feel like I’m missing the networking piece of the puzzle. For buyside roles, a lot of people talk about how headhunters are the key to getting interviews in the process, but also mention networking too. Are people out here cold emailing PE professionals too or is it just more organic networking through perhaps working with them in the job? I would really appreciate any tips, since networking is certainly not my strong suit!
