How much does Fund Size Matter?

In light of the recent post on firms with >$10B funds, I took a look at the recent raises of a lot of the big names and it got me wondering how much fund size matters from a junior level? A name like NMC, who's very respected but not as well known as a Bain Cap or TPG, beats them both out in recent flagship PE fundraise ($15.4B to $14B, $12B respectively). All else equal, if one is trying to do traditional buyout on a firm's flagship PE team, does it make sense to optimize for fund size? Would you take an NMC over a Bain Cap/TPG coming out of banking?

In terms of name brand, this is just off my judgement in where I see top EB/BB analysts go to after their IB stint, I know NMC is growing incredibly quickly and is a coveted seat, just used these names to give some perspective.
