How to ask for return offer in PE

Hi Monkeys,

I'm an off-cycle intern at a megafund. The internship itself didn't lead to a path to a return offer; however, a few analysts and associates have left and there might be open full-time positions. My MDs and fellow team like me and want me to speak to the regional Head, who ultimately decides the headcount, about the return offer. I want the return offer, and I think my MDs have spoken with the Head, even though the big boss hasn't made the decision.

I have never talked to the Head directly, but he is aware of my existence. What would you suggest talking about? Maybe some form of mid-year review and a few career goals then say I would like the opportunity to stay?

Thanks in advance.

Don’t overthink it.

1) If your MD likes you and has talked to the head then they are aware. Although, your MD should really be the one setting this up, I don’t understand why they want you to talk to the regional head, that sounds a bit weird (putting you in a bit of a weird position when they can just do the intro and have the convo with both of you)

2) tell the regional head you are really enjoying your time, like the team, etc etc (things about the firm, the people, the work) and would really want to be considered for full time positions if any are available.

That’s basically it.

Appreciate your help.

It was my MD who asked the head about the return offer without telling me. After that he told me that the head hadn't made the decision about headcount back then. He wanted me to wait a bit then he would raise this to the head again. Then another MD told me that the head likes proactive people so I should take the initiative. I was quite surprised that so many people supported me, but yes this is a bit weird maybe because my office doesn't usually recruit undergrad for analyst position.

What's in my mind now is to review a bit of what I have done so far (have interned for almost one year), set a few goals and ways to achieve them, and start to dive into the return offer question.
