How to covince someone to give you an interview?

I "know" a MD at a small PE fund through referrals. The shop covers a very specific sector in an emerging market.

I have a lot of experience in that sector and I have at least equal or more hands-on experience than their current analysts. (judging from their bios)

Possible draw backs include the fact I am still undergrad and their HQ office is pretty far away from I am. I exchange emails with him from time to time but we haven't met face to face in a while.

  1. So how do I convince him to give me an interview or consider me for a ft analyst spot?

  2. I think the best way to reach him is via email, what should I say in that email and when should I start contacting him?
