HS Student Interested in PE

Hello WSO,

I'm a high school junior with a strong interest in finance. I’ve achieved success in various finance competitions and have practical experience running a startup and managing a small investment fund. I also work as an Equity Research Analyst, focusing on disruptive technologies.

Academically, I have a solid GPA and SAT score, with a heavy AP course load. I aim to attend a top undergraduate business school and eventually work in a PE mega-fund, aspiring to become an MD. I plan to major in Finance with a possible minor or double major in a technical field for an analytical edge.

Any tips or advice on pursuing a career in PE or finance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

This sounds like shameless troll-bait, but I guess I'll bite - I'll be succinct. You have a better chance of getting struck by lightning in a redwood grove than making PE MD by 31 at a mega fund. Good luck though man - wish you the best. Can't say I even knew about PE was at your age so.. congrats on that?

Hey, good for you. At your age gym class was the only PE I knew about. Some thoughts; - Learn to make points quickly and succinctly using an economy of language. You're not making MD unless you can explain volumes of confusing shit really simply, in a few sentences.
- You wanna ride the bull, then go buy and flip some shitty local business before you graduate HS. Find another and hold it, figure out how to keep and manage it while you're in college. Not for the money but for the experience.
- Most kids need college, you might not. Seriously. It's a wild card move and takes big balls but there are plenty of famous entrepreneurs who lack a college degree. - Why MD at a mega fund? Sounds nice but could be a pain in the ass. My best friend wanted to be a surgeon for the chicks and status, now he has both but doesn't like his career. Guess where he spends most of his day? Lastly, go do something wild. You're young and can still get away with it.
