Investing as a PE associate
Anyone have any information on whether or not you are allowed to invest on your own as a PE associate? (in individual stocks, funds, etc.)
Obviously there are a lot of restrictions in IB on investment accounts and was wondering if the same type of restrictions still exist.
Thanks!
it really depends on your fund. Small funds that only do PE usually don't have too many rules that prevent you from investing. On the other hand, large publicly traded funds with large asset management business will have similar rules and compliance than investment banks.
Would echo this - depends on the fund. For example, our fund has a restricted list of names (due to portfolio investments that are tangentially related). Not too many names on the list, but still need to be mindful.
We can trade freely as long as we're not trading in the names on the restricted list. I have found it to be much less restrictive and less burdensome than at my former IB
You should have a sense of what you can and can't invest in based on compliance rules for the fund.
If you're worried about it, it probably just makes sense to ask.
Pretty much the same restrictions for me as back in banking - bit of a nightmare but at least can coinvest in all private capital strategies of the firm..
is that for every firm? is there not still a minimum investment or is it reduced because you’re in house?
