Is 2023 On Cycle right for me?

Hi all, I'm a first year consulting analyst at an MBB - started this summer, planning to do some DDs in the new year but haven't done any yet. I'm interested but not tied down to doing PE. Is 2023 on cycle recruiting the best bet or should I wait until 2024? TIA.

If you are not beholden to recruiting then you may benefit from waiting a bit and getting some DD experience first before deciding to recruit. Some of my friends in MBB decided to wait during my cycle because they didn't have DD experience yet and weren't sure they wanted to do PE

Additionally, if you are at all questioning doing PE perhaps you could benefit from taking some time to also talk to other consultants who have made the move to PE shops. I do think it comes across as a stronger story for PE firms and headhunters if you are sure you want to do PE and have XYZ reasons why you want to pursue it (sounds like you aren't gung ho about it yet - which is fine and there's lots of opps out of MBB outside of PE too!)

This all being said if you become quite certain that you want to do PE and you can probably just go for it. Not sure that you will necessarily be at a disadvantage to others (will caveat I am not a consultant so you can likely make the better ultimate judgement call than i can).
