Is HF --> PE Possible Without Banking/PE Experience?

Let's say you start in AM, or ER at a top shop. Break into a MM like Point72, Citadel, Millenium and do well for 1-2 years. Would it be possible to make the switch into PE?

I know this is uncommon, but I haven't seen this spoken about before. What are your thoughts?

I think it depends on the hf strategy, and the pe strategy.Currently I am a 3rd yr at a multi-strategy hf but focus is on vc-style investments in addition to the l/s strategy.I'm in the early stage of interviewing for a buyout fund; where it's strategy is kind of like a vc.So theres some commonality. Major difference is the pe will be much more hands on, whereas the former is just planting the seeds and waiting for growth.
